The Food and Drugs Board (FDB), on Wednesday, following a tip off, impounded fake products belonging to Multi Giant Ventures.
They include cartons of assorted fake alcoholic beverages, 250 liters of ethanol, two gallons of flavorings, quantities of alcoholic beverage labels, bottle cups, empty bottles and paper cartons.
A statement issued by the FDB on Friday said it officials undertook a post-market surveillance with the police and arrested some workers at the company.
It said George Kofi Asomani, owner of Multi Giant Ventures, was not at the premises of company at the time of the arrest.
The statement said Investigations conducted by the team revealed that Mr. Asomani, was a distributor of local alcoholic beverages: Agya Appiah Bitters, Ohene Ba Kasempa Abe Nsuo Gin, and Baron Captain’s Dry Gin.
It said Multi Giants Ventures produced fake J.H. Henke’s Schnapps, J.H. Captain’s Schnapps, Castle Bridge London Dry Gin and distributed the products to unsuspecting retailers of alcoholic beverages nationwide.
The statement said 15 bottles of fake Hennessy Cognac (a product of France) were also found in Mr. Asomani’s bedroom, where the alcoholic beverages were produced.
It said Mr. Asomani, who was on the run, was being sought by the police to assist in investigation.
The statement advise retailers of alcoholic beverages to ensure that they obtained their supplies from authentic sources, and complained that some of them for high profit margins, bought products from suspicious persons at lower prices.
The statement said the FDB would not relent on its effort in ensuring public health and safety, and called on the people to volunteer information on persons suspected to be endangering public health and safety through mobile numbers: 0244337235, 0244337251 or 0244337243.
