After a largely successful Independence Day event, personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service who took part in the parade say they were not paid allowances promised them. The 150 contingent told Joy News they expected to be paid 300,000 cedis like counterparts in the other security services. But their leaders were offering a mere 95,000 cedis. The Ghana@50 Secretariat was said to have released funds for the provision of what the security personnel called refreshment. The firemen spoke to Joy News on Thursday from their headquarters where they had gathered to demand their due. They vowed to reject the 95,000 cedis being offered. “We compare ourselves with other security services, you can see that they’re far ahead of us, the money that they shared for them and the one they are giving to us. CEPS got about 300,000. Everyday they mark them 35,000 and they were laughing at us that our 95,000 is not enough and that means our big men are cheating on us, ... They said we should come here and come and meet our Chief, everyday we come here at 8 o’clock, we’re sitting down, he is not in". "The boys are here and everybody is around and we are waiting for him. 95,000 is not good for us, that is not the money they are supposed to pay us. We started the rehearsal from 15th January until Monday the 6th Of March”.
