As part of efforts towards finding solutions to Ghana’s perennial water crisis, the first ever water fair has been launched in Accra.
The fair, which is under the auspices of NENHYIRA WATER SOLUTION, seeks to provide a platform to exhibit high quality water equipment in the sachet and packaged water industry.
The fair is expected to be held on March 1, 2014 on the theme: the Impact of Safe Drinking Water Production for the Development of Ghana, which will raise the standards of water production through technology transfer, quality control assurance and the adoption of ISO and other quality standards.
Water producers in the country will also be given the opportunity to advertise their products.
Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Director at the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Harold Clottey commended the organizers for the initiative.
He noted that the Ministry is proud to be associated with the fair because of its commitment to ensuring that good water is distributed to consumers.
Harold Clottey disclosed that the Ministry for Works and Housing, with the support of UNICEF and the Ghana Statistical Service is currently undertaking a survey to ascertain the quality of drinking water people use in their homes.
He blamed the outbreak of some water borne disease on water producers failure to follow laid down procedures.
“I am appealing to the relevant government agencies to strictly enforce regulations to ensure that the bad nuts are flashed out of the system”, he inisisted.
