Four members of a group of irate youth of the National Democratic Congress have been arrested in Wa in connection with the disruption of a bidding process to the award a contract for the construction of school projects.
The group, in a vigilante fashion burnt down bidding documents for the award of contracts for the building of school projects in the Upper West Region on Tuesday.
Joy FM’s Upper West Regional correspondent Rafik Salam reports that the angry youth rode on motorbikes and bicycles from the regional office of the National Democratic Congress to the office of the Regional Coordinating Council, broke into the conference room and seized the box containing the bidding documents.
The youth were said to have later burnt the bidding documents to scuttle the opening of tenders.
A report early on said warning shots had to be fired by the bodyguard of the regional minister to ward off the rampaging youth.
Asked if there was no security presence at the time of the break-in, Rafik Salam said the action has confounded many, especially so when the regional police headquarters was close by.
The youth claimed to have been sidelined in the award of contracts and accuse the Regional Minister of awarding contracts to cronies.
Meanwhile the bidding process has been postponed.
