Workers of the Ghana Commercial Bank are reported to be agitated over the possibility of the company laying them off.
Reports reaching Asempa News indicate that the company is planning to send home 900 staff in what is termed as a “compulsory redundant exercise”.
It is also alleged that the company’s management is also targeting over 100 staff to be sent home.
The report also indicates that there will also be what is described as a voluntary redundancy exercise.
Low salary levels, no deliberate plan to better workers lot, lack of interest in staff welfare on the part of management among other issues are the sources of the workers frustration and agitation.
The workers say they do not know the criteria by which the 900 staff will be laid off.
Some workers believe that the alleged laying off will be based on political reasons or political motivations.
When Asempa News contacted the company’s management, they declined commenting on the issue.
