Scores of Ghanaians are believed to have died in Libya when a bus they were traveling in was involved in an accident.
The news came from concerned Ghanaians in Libya who yesterday called a local radio station in Accra. They said the accident had claimed the lives of about 100 Ghanaians and an unspecified number of other African immigrants in that country.
Unconfirmed reports said they were all deportees who were being transported to a site in Seda, about eight hours’ drive from the capital Tripoli.
Ghana’s mission in Tripoli had not commented on the report as at 5 pm yesterday.
Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NEPAD said that Ghana’s Ambassador to Libya, Kwadwo Wadee had been contacted on the issue but could not immediately provide definite information because he was yet to visit Seda.
However, at the time of going to press, the Ambassador was said to be on his way to the town to assess the situation.
