Ghanian UK-based female architect launches book to inspire African children

A Ghanaian British-trained female architect, Selassie Agroh, on Thursday, December 14, launched her maiden book at the British Council in Accra.

The book, titled, "Tutu Bento and The Nuband", is a story about friendship, community, resilience, African culture, and music especially Ghanaian music and cultural heritage.

The 300 page book also seeks to promote a strong bond of friendship amongst children, encouraging them to be team players thus helping them both academically and socially.

Tutu Bento and The Nuband reflects African culture, and it's relatable and inspiring for children of African descent to see themselves represented in a book.

The book serves as a tool to encourage children to read more and boost their vocabulary.

"When Tutu Bento and his friends decide to compete in the annual Festival of Sounds, they quickly discover that skill alone will not be enough to see them through.

Tutu and his friends must find ways to work together and overcome the challenges they are faced with on their journey to perfect their own sound – Music Fusion.

In an interview after the launch, the author said her children inspired her to write the book.

According to Selassie Agroh, she has cultivated a reading habit where she reads African story books with her children.

However, the turning point came when her children asked her if she had ever published a book before. She said her answer to this question, opened a conversation on how beneficial it will be if she wrote a book.

Selassie Agroh said that day’s group reading with her children marked the beginning of her book writing journey.

She says the journey has not been smooth as domestic and her tight work schedule delayed her for two years.

Launching the book, Mr Ayaa Kojo Armah, who chaired the function said book will be useful for children and advised school authorities and parents to buy for the children.
