Two of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s key Ministerial nominees are due to appear before Parliament’s appointments committee for vetting Saturday.
Ministers designate for Justice and attorney General, Gloria Akuffo and nominee for the Interior Ambrose Dery will be quizzed by members of the committee this morning.
Gloria Akuffo graduated in 1979 from the University of Ghana with a B.A. (Hons) in Law and Political Science. She became a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Ghana, enrolling at the Ghana Bar Association in 1982. She was a founding partner in a private legal firm, Owusu-Yeboa, Akuffo & Associates, in Accra
Mr Dery, a devout Catholic, was born in 1956. He entered the University of Ghana in 1977 after completing Navrongo Secondary School. He graduated with an LL.B and a BL and was called to the Bar in 1982.
On Friday Finance minister-designate, Ken Ofori-Atta appeared before the committee and revealed that $15 million will be put into the Zongo development fund to begin the process of sharing the country's resources equitably.
"All citizens deserve a minimum thresh hold of development," he stated.
The fund was a manifesto promise of the governing party that seeks to address the specific needs and challenges of Zongo communities (communities populated by Muslims) in the country.
Also at the hearing yesterday was Senior Minister-Designate Yaw OsafoMarfo who Justified Government’s intention to review the country’s IMF agreement.
National security minister-designate, Albert Kan Dapaah also said the creation of a ministry responsible for national security will help in the fight against forceful takeovers that characterise a change in government.
