Government has announced a life insurance policy to be rolled out for fishermen and women.
The announcement was made by the Fisheries Minister Nayong Bilijo at Elmina, Cape Coast where the president John Mahama has been meeting with fisherfolks.
He is however yet to provide details on how the policy will be executed and when it will start.
The minister said five cold stores have been completed by government and will be handed over to the assembly in due time.
President John Mahama also promised that government will supply the fisherfolks with the fishing inputs, including outboard motors, fishing nets between April and May.
This is in fulfilment of demands made by the fishermen for the inputs to be supplied before the main season for fishing which is in August.
He was however quick to admonish beneficiaries of the fishing inputs not to default in the payment of the inputs in order to ensure regular supply.
President John Mahama later announced, arrests and prosecution of persons said to have engaged in commercial trawling in artisanal fishing zones.
The visit to the fishermen and women in Elmina is part of the president's two-day working visit to Cape Coast.
Yesterday, he inspected the Kotokuraba market and the Cape Coast stadium where rehabilitation works are said to be progressing steadily.
