The government says it is closely monitoring events in Ivory Coast and has drafted contingency plans to evacuate Ghanaian citizens in that country before the crises gets out of control.
Deputy Minsiter for Information, James Agyenim Boateng told Joy News that government is in touch with the Ghana embassy in Ivory Coast on the welfare of Ghanaians and early warning signals.
“We continue to monitor developments in Ivory Coast on a daily basis,” he said.
“At this point government has developed a blueprint. There’s a detailed plan which has been done and as at when it becomes necessary to evacuate our citizens from that jurisdiction, we’ll just have to activate that plan.”
Mr. Agyenim Boateng added that the government is considering setting up a national crisis committee to oversee such events which could occur.
It is also been thought of to set up a national crisis committee. All of this we are doing in readiness, that is, should the situation get extremely precarious and get out of hand,” Mr Agyenim Boateng indicated.
