Government is planning to dedicate the Akosombo Dam to provide energy to strategic industries in the country, Power Minister Kwabena Donkor has said.
That will only be done when the current energy situation stabilizes.
The country has been plunged into a three-year power crisis following erratic supply of gas to power plants, high cost of crude oil, and breakdown of equipment.
The situation has worsened over the last two weeks after gas supply from Atuabo also plummeted.
Speaking in Tamale, Wednesday, Power Minister Kwabena Donkor reiterated his promise that the ongoing power crisis will be solved by the end of the year.
" I want to assure the current power crises will definitely come to an end this year," he said.
Using a popular adage to buttress his assurance, the Minister said if a blind man tells you he will hurl a stone at you, chances are that he has his leg on the stone already.
He said government knows exactly what it has done over the years and can say for a fact that the energy crisis will end in the coming year.
Kwabena Donkor admitted that the current power crisis is taking a heavy toll on the economy but swore government was working tirelessly to deal the challenge.
