The Deputy Minister of Agriculture in charge of fisheries Nii Amasa Namoaley has assured residence of Keta of government’s readiness to establish landing site to support fishing activities among fishermen and women in the area.
According to him, government has secured 200 million dollar facility from China to construct a landing site in Keta.
Namoaley was speaking to the Volta Regional Correspondent in Keta when he visited Vodza in the company of the Deputy Transport Minister Dzifa Ativor and the Deputy Volta Regional Minister Henry Ametefee.
The deputy minister attributed the delay for construction to government’s inability to secure funds on time.
According to him, the interaction with the fishermen was to inform them about the project and prepare their minds in readiness for the project that will employ most of the youth from the area.
He noted the project is part of President Mills’ promise to the people of the Volta region hence the need to establish the landing site so as to empower the fishermen at the local level and improve on their economic status and activities.
The Deputy Agriculture Minister revealed the facility will include several packages such as schools, offices, lorry station, banks and a host of businesses that will create job opportunities for the people.
The deputy Minister for transport Hon Dzifa Ativor urged the people to retain the NDC in power to enable them address the development challenges of the region.
She observed that residents of the region have contributed to the success story of the NDC and assured them of government’s commitment to reciprocate the gesture through development.
Mrs Attivor mentioned the eastern corridor, the establishment of the University of Health and Allied Sciences and a number of educational infrastructure as well as the construction of roads in parts of the region as some of the achievements of President Mills.
In an interview with the fishermen at Vodza, they lamented what they described as unfulfilled promises by politicians who hail from the Volta region.
According to them, eventhough they are happy about the project, they are no longer prepared to accept any vague promises from the government.
They promised to demonstrate their displeasure towards the NDC at the December polls if they failed to honor their promise.
Earlier, the deputy ministers paid courtesy call on the Awormefia Torgbi Sri at his residence at Anloga where the contractors for the project were introduced to the chiefs.
