Nations FC welcome defending champions FC Samartex 1996 to the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday, May 25, in a crucial Ghana Premier League clash as the title race enters its final stretch.
Kassim Mingle’s side are in red-hot form, having won four of their last five matches, scoring five goals and conceding just once. Their standout performance came in a 2-0 victory over Asante Kotoko on matchday 28 — a run that earned Kassim the NASCO Coach of the Month award for April.
Burkinabé goalkeeper Rabin Ousmane Sanon, recently named Goalkeeper of the Month, has been a key figure in Nations FC's push for the title and will be relied upon once again to keep Samartex at bay.
Following a dominant 4-1 win over relegated Legon Cities last weekend, Nations FC sit atop the league table with 57 points — one ahead of Bibiani Gold Stars and three clear of both Hearts of Lions and Asante Kotoko. With three matches remaining, only a win will suffice for Kassim’s men as they chase their first-ever league title.
Meanwhile, Samartex head coach Christopher Ennin will look to Player of the Month Emmanuel Mamah to lead the attack. The in-form striker scored six goals in April, including a brace against Basake Holy Stars on matchday 29.
Although their title defense has seen mixed results — 48 points from 31 games (W12 D12 L7) — Samartex remain dangerous and capable of an upset. They have won three of their last five matches and will aim to derail Nations FC’s title ambitions.
The reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw, setting the stage for a potentially explosive encounter on Sunday.
