Pressure group loyal to opposition New Patriotic Party has claimed its spokesperson, David Asante, survived an “attack by gunmen” on Friday evening, at his Afienya residence.
The group alleged, “gunmen wielding sophisticated weaponry fired several times into the house of Mr David Asante, who at the time was at his Afienya residence with his wife and a baby, who is a few months old.
The gunmen wielding sophisticated weaponry fired several times into the house of Mr David Asante, who at the time was at his Afienya residence with his wife and a baby, who is a few months old.
A distress call the Ghana Police Service, produced little results as the supposed gunmen bolted in an unidentified saloon car with no number plates, at the time the police arrived.
“This attack is a clear signal that someone, somewhere, is uncomfortable with the impact the Let My Vote Count Alliance is making in this country and is prepared to go all lengths to ensure that we don’t succeed; even if it means killing some of us, I believe they plan on doing that,” Mr Asante said.
Mr Asante, however assured, those who want to cow the group and its leadership into submission that the plans will not work.
“This attack has strengthened my resolve, and that of my colleagues in the LMVCA, that we are on course in our advocacy and our belief that the result of the 2012 election was not a true reflection of the sovereign will of the Ghanaian people.
“We still maintain that the election was rigged massively for John Dramani Mahama, and the Supreme Court will vindicate our position,” Mr Asante added.
