The quick intervention of a combined team of police and military personnel this morning, averted a possible clash between supporters of two rival chieftaincy factions at Buipe in the Northern Region, where Vice President John Mahama is visiting.
Early Saturday morning confusion broke out in Buipe as Mr Mahama made his way to the town to cut the sod for a sheanut plant.
Two chieftaincy factions have for months been contesting who has the legitimacy to be the Buipe Wura.
Last night the Yarfra faction issued a statement demanding the Vice President to pay courtesy calls on the leaders of both factions, or face the subsequent security problems.
Arrest and prosecute
Meanwhile the Vice President has instructed the Northern Regional Minister and the Police Commander to urgently search for those behind the shooting on the town ahead of his visit.
Mr. Mahama said swift prosecution of the perpetrators would serve as deterrent to those planning to cause mayhem in the north.
