Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has revealed that he cried at night after watching highlights of the Ghana Premier League game between Dreams FC and Accra Lions.
The 1-0 win for the Still Believe lads has been the subject of controversy due to several questionable decisions made by referee Maxwell Hanson.
Highlights shared on social media have drawn criticism of the officiating from many fans and pundits.
Reacting to the refereeing decisions in the game, Daara said it was heartbreaking to see the calls made during the match.
“For the first time in 20 years, I shed tears at 1 am when I saw highlights of Dreams FC vs. Accra Lions,” the CAF Media Officer wrote on X.
“I have firsthand knowledge of the millions of dollars Lions have invested in Ghana football, and seeing this being undermined was too painful. I am a human being; I have a soul.”
Following the match, Accra Lions issued a statement urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to implement reforms aimed at addressing the poor officiating.
Dreams FC, however, defended their position, accusing Accra Lions of hypocrisy, pointing out that refereeing errors are a global issue, and urging Lions to channel their concerns through the proper channels.
The win lifted Dreams FC to 14th on the GPL table, while Accra Lions remain in the relegation zone, sitting 17th with 13 points from 16 matches.
