The former Deputy Head of the Commercial Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Mrs. Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda, has threatened to spill the beans over the recent cocaine turned baking soda saga, to which she has fallen victim, claiming some top serving police officers were involved. She claimed: "I have been sacrificed by the Police Administration to cover up the officers involved." Mrs Tehoda disclosed this when she visited the Times offices in Accra Thursday, fuming and threatening to expose all those involved if she was not reinstated. Asked what further action she would take after spilling the beans, if the Police Administration was still adamant, she stated that she would have no other alternative than to sue the Police Administration for tarnishing her image and her family's by describing her as a cocaine dealer. Mrs. Tehoda stated that the Police Officers involved in the deal were still at post and must be exposed to compel the Inspector-General of police to conduct a "house cleaning exercise." Asked whether she could substantiate the allegations, she insisted that "after the case was struck out by the Circuit Court I decided to conduct my own investigations as a police investigator and came to the conclusion that those police officers were rather involved and I can prove my innocence in the matter." Mrs Tehoda was axed by the Police Central Disciplinary Board on August 28, 2012 after being found guilty of misconduct last year. The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) implicated her in the circumstances leading to the swapping of the 1.20 kilogrammes of Cocaine exhibit which formed the basis for the trial of one Nana Ama Martin by an Accra Circuit Court. The report of the BNI recommended that Mrs. Tehoda be held liable for the disappearance of the cocaine on the grounds that she held nine meetings with Nana Ama Martin while she was in custody at the Police Headquarters. Following from the report, Mrs. Tehoda was interdicted on January 18, 2012 by the Police Administration, pending investigations into her alleged misconduct by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Subsequently, she was served with her dismissal letter. Daring the Police Administration, Mrs. Tehoda questioned the propriety of the inquiry which culminated in her the dismissal, stressing that she was not given any opportunity to defend herself. In response to a question, the former Deputy Head of the Commercial Crime Unit, said "my lawyers raised objections to the inquiry process but were overruled, following which they withdrew their legal service, and as a result I asked for some time to engage a lawyer, but that was also rejected." Fuming during certain stages of the chat, Mrs. Tehoda quipped: The Police and the BNI have used me as a pun for their nefarious activities, and they will not go scot free, but pay dearly for it." According to her, she has challenged the IGP to come out with the truth of the matter to avert the washing of the dirty linen of the police administration, in public.
