The Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group (IACG) launched the 2025 Micro and Small Business Clinics (MSBC) in Takoradi for owners of small businesses in the Western and Western North Regions.

The IACG, comprising of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), Ghana Insurance College (GIC) and the National Association of Ghana Insurance Agents (NAGIA) with support from the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) is set to roll out a targeted awareness campaign aimed at encouraging small business owners to embrace insurance as a key tool for safeguarding their livelihoods.

This clinic is also to provide data for insurance companies to design tailor-made insurance product to meet the risk needs of the informal sector in Ghana.

Speaking ahead of the campaign, the Chairman of the IACG. Mr. Wilson Tei announced that the initiative—will reach a total of over 1,000 small business holders across the Western and Western North Regions.

According to Mr. Tei, the goal of the programme is to bridge the insurance gap among unserved small and medium-sized business owners and promote a better understanding of the benefits of business insurance.

Additionally, the Head of Research at the NIC, Mr. Kyeame Ghansah who is part of the implementation committee opined that "This programme is to help small business holders come to terms with the importance of insuring their enterprises as a safety net against unforeseen risks. It is part of the broader strategy of the NIC to increase insurance penetration in Ghana."

Conclusively, Mr. Prince Quayson of the GIA reiterated that the MSBC programme, a collaborative effort by key industry stakeholders will be done on an annual basis targeting informal sector business owners in different regions of Ghana.

The four-day clinic begins on April 28, 2025, in Takoradi, with scheduled stops in Tarkwa, Sefwi Wiawso, and Bibiani will be graced by the Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Abiba Zakaria, the Chairman of IACG, Mr. Wilson Tei, the President of IBAG, Mr. Shaibu Ali, and the CEO of GIA, Dr. Kingsley Kwabahson.
