Four blacksmiths suspected of manufacturing guns in the Adansi area have been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
Police raided their workshops as a step to curtailing the production of illegal weapons, which are often found in unauthorized hands and who use them for various crimes.
Regional Police Commander, DCOP Augustine Gyening announced the arrest at a press conference Friday.
Luv News’ Erastus Asare Donkor reports that the police were able to retrieve 42 single barrel guns, a number of ammunition, gun-manufacturing machines, four locally made pistols, two foreign made revolvers among other arsenals.
In a related development, three suspected armed robbers who attempted to outwit a police checkpoint have also been grabbed.
Their names were given as: Daniel Apusiba alias Buffalo, 18, a student; Denise Kweku Acheampong, 21, an electrician; Akwasi Asamoah, 18, a second year SHS student.
A taxi driver who they have hired, the police said, from Santansi roundabout to Ahondzu notified the police leading to the arrest of the robbers.
The police have also arrested one Collins Boadi Bonsu, 33, at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi for attempting to sell a foreign pistol for GH¢2,000.
Meanwhile the police have called on residents to volunteer information to the police to enable them apprehend criminals in their communities.
