Authorities at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have beefed up security at the facility following the bizarre death of a twenty-seven year old junior doctor over the weekend.Desmond Kabbah was found naked on his bed with stab wounds, and bits of the skin on his leg peeled. His colleagues are apprehensive about security within the hospital’s enclave in the wake of the death. But Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mustapha Salifu says hospital officials have taken immediate steps to guarantee the safety and security of staff and patients. He said they were brightening the compound in order that any suspicious character lurking around could easily be identified. The hospital authorities add they are working closely with police to unravel the mysterious death of the Junior Doctor. The doctors however say they are yet to feel the intensification in security and are planning a march to present a petition to the administration today. The petition said, “With regards to the fact that security system at the doctors flats are poor thus the rising incidence of persistent attacks on doctors and now the demise of one of our colleagues, it is surprising that the KBTH administration has not taken any steps to address the situation in the mean time to allay fears of danger.“Within 24 hours of the discovery of the body of our colleague, nothing has changed to ensure the safety of our lives,” the junior doctors stated. The doctors are demanding immediate security measures which they say will give them the assurance that staying at the flats is safe. The demands include “Good and adequate source of lighting will be provided in the house officers' flats and its surroundings (that is, pathways or roads that lead to and from the flats.“ 24 hour patrol team (made of policemen and the Korle-Bu security men), which would patrol the flats and its environs consistently, especially at night” and “Beef up in security at the flats and evidence of at least an able bodied security man at flats that formally did not have any form of security.”
