President Nana Akufo-Addo says he is saddened by the accident involving the playing body of Kumasi-based Asante Kotoko Football Club on Wednesday.
At least one person has been confirmed dead in the crash that happened around 10pm near Nkawkaw while the team was returning to Kumasi after a League game against Accra-based Inter Allies.
He has been identified as Kofi Asare, Assistant Equipment Officer of the club.

Kotoko Coach, Steve Pollack injured
The bus reportedly ran into a slow-moving truck carrying fertiliser. Several other players and their coach, Steve Pollack sustained varying degrees of injury.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo in a Tweet, expressed sympathy to the club as well as the family of the deceased official.
“Saddened by the news of the accident involving players & officials of Kotoko. My heart goes out to the team; speedy recovery to the injured,” the President posted on his Twitter handle Thursday.

Former President John Mahama also wrote on Facebook hours after the crash: “Let’s remember Asante Kotoko S.C. in our prayers.”
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Ghana Football Association has arrived at Nkawkaw where the accident occurred.
Management of the club is on top of the situation and will appropriately brief supporters and the general public in the coming hours, a reporter has said.

Meanwhile, nine of the players and their manager Godwin Ablordey have been discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after being treated there.
The players are Evans Kwaw, Eric Donkor, Saddick Adams, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi, Baba Mahama, Osei Agyeman, Augustine Sefa, Michael Akuffo and Awudu Nafiu.
However, the Coach, Steve Pollack, Ollenu Ashitey and the driver, Nana Berkye are still on admission at the KATH.
