Asempa FM’s Thomas Freeman N. Yeboah who is also a member of the GFA Research and Management Committee has debunked media reports that Kumasi Asante Kotoko set a new record by becoming the first Ghanaian team to record the highest score-line in an Africa competition.
Kotoko thumped Sony Ela Nguema of Equatorial Guinea by 7-0 last week in their opening CAF Champions League qualifying round.
Some media outlets claimed the results was the highest ever score-line recorded by a Ghanaian club in Africa.
But Freeman who is known for his impeccable credentials in sports research has debunked that report.
On Sports Avenue and Ultimate Sports Show all on Asempa FM, the researcher recited the history of the highest scoring Ghanaian clubs in Africa.
He said the Porcupine Warriors only equaled similar feats recorded by Accra Great Olympics and Ashantigold in 1971 and 1995 respectively.
The following is the details of his research
Sunday 30th May, 1971
Olympics 7-0 MMM Tamatave
Scorers: Jones Attoquayefio 3 goals, Peter Lamptey 2 goals, Coblah 1 goal and Robert Hammond 1 goal.
Sunday 26th March, 1995
Goldfields ( now Ashgold) 8-1 NPA Anchors
Scorers: Kofi Deblah 4 goals, Eben Hagan 3 goals, Kwabena Boateng 1 goal; Frank Taylor.
Freeman was instrumental in setting the records straight on the number league titles won by Kumasi Asante Kotoko as well as other facts which have been misreported.
