The Governing Council of the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has constituted a committee to review concerns arising from recent directives issued by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on staff who obtained academic qualifications from institutions classified as unrecognised.
In a statement dated December 15, 2025, and signed by the University Registrar, KsTU said the committee has been tasked to assess how the GTEC directives affect members of staff whose degrees were awarded by institutions named on the unrecognised list.
Beyond the staff-related concerns, the committee has also been mandated to examine a petition submitted against the Vice-Chancellor, which raises questions about the recognition status of his PhD-awarding institution.

The university confirmed that the petition is currently under review.
The statement noted that upon completion of the committee’s work, the Governing Council will take appropriate steps to safeguard the integrity, credibility, and reputation of the University, in line with established procedures and regulations.
KsTU management assured staff, students, and the wider public that the process will be conducted with fairness and transparency, and appealed for calm and patience while the matter is being addressed.
