The case of Constable Smith Gyekyi, the policeman accused of shooting a man at Kuntunse over an alleged transport fare dispute, has been adjourned to February 20.
At a district court at Kotobabi in Accra, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Apewa Achana, told the court that they were still awaiting the Attorney General’s advice on the matter after forwarding a duplicate to the said office.
Chief Inspector Achana, therefore, prayed for a date.
Meanwhile, the Ghana News Agency has gathered that Constable Gyekyi, last year, obtained a GHC 200,000 bail from a high court in Accra.
She is being held for the murder of one Stanley Ahadzi.
The court has preserved his plea.
On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at about 0400 hours, the police received information that a male adult had been shot at the frontage of Koans Estate at Satellite Kuntunse, near Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.
The prosecution said when the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Adamu Muniru, Adjen Kotoku Crime Officer and Assistant Superintendent of Police, the Night Monitoring Officer, and the Case Investigator, Leticia Asiedu, arrived at the scene, they discovered a 25-year-old adult, named Stanley Ahadzi, was found dead and in a supine position with blood oozing from his head.
The court heard that Constable Gyekyi, who was using his private car for commercial purposes, “picked” one Esther Owusua from Ablekuma Joma to Koans Estate, Kuntunse Satellite, around 0300 hours on the same day.
The prosecution held that while on their route, Owusua, a witness in the case, got lost and contacted Ahadzi, now deceased, who agreed to meet them at Koans gate.
Ahadzi arrived at the Koans Estate Gate and a quarrel ensued between him and Constable Gyekyi over the fare, which angered him and he (Gyekyi) pulled his sidearm, gave a warning shot and later shot Ahadzi to death.
Constable Gyekyi reported himself to the Amasaman Divisional Police Command and he was detained.
During investigations, he admitted the offence.
