CEO of Charterhouse, Theresa Ayoade, has urged the media, film industry and government to take deliberate steps to incorporate cultural values into animated films.
According to her, Japan and other Asian cultures are evolving, but the new generation like the old are still very guided by their culture.
Speaking on Showbiz A-Z, on Saturday, Mrs. Ayoade explained that stories told through Kwaku Ananse tales could be made into animation films for the new generation to consume.
“This is a call to all of us individuals to go back to our roots and bring back the culture into our present-day life. We should make deliberate efforts, and be more intentional about instilling our culture into our children.”
“Those of us who went through the Kwaku Ananse generation and learnt all the stories, what did we do about passing it on to our children? What did we as the custodians of media do about modernising the Kwaku Ananse stories?”
Through animations, Mrs. Ayoade believes that stories of culture and Ananse tales can be incorporated to entice the generation Z who consume a lot of foreign animations, including superhero comics.
She stated that there need to be deliberate efforts to push culture into the forefront of the country’s development, be it through media or through society.
“But sometimes, when we are not doing things as we need to do, there come policies which are deliberate effort and attempts by the government to direct us in a particular way,” she stated.
The Charterhouse CEO noted that policies can help Ghanaians embrace their culture, especially when it is infused into different aspects, including education.
