A member of the Ghana FA disciplinary committee, lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo is calling on the Government of Ghana to quickly pass the much awaited new Sports Bill to solve the current trend of hooliganism in Ghana Football.
The passing of the Sports Bill will replace the SMC Decree 54 of 1976 regarding the various aspects of Sports management, promotion and development in Ghana and seeks to make it current for international practices.
Speaking on Asempa Sports, the legal practioner thinks when the Bill is passed it will prevent irate football and other sports fans who take the laws of the games into their own hands to attack opponents and officiating officials whenever decisions go against them.
If the Bill had been in place the supporters who decided to beat referee Kyei Andoh mercilessly to meet his untimely death 5 days after when he officiated a division Two League game between Najoe United and Gold Stars in a town near Tarkwa could have been dealt with by now.
“Football rules can never judge someone to be imprisoned but the laws of the country can do that so this is what am telling the parliamentary select committee on sports, they should come out with the Sports Bill as soon as possible.
“ Some select committees in parliament are already done with their laws so I think the sports committee should also be up and doing because since 1993 they have been struggling to prepare the Sports Bill but meanwhile they take their ex - gratia every 4yrs”.He added
However the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Joseph Yamin stated a month ago that the new Sports Bill will be passed by Parliament before the end of the second quarter of 2014.
