Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has warned that the government will terminate contracts of contractors who fail to deliver quality work within the agreed timelines under the ‘Big Push’ road infrastructure agenda.

The Minister, who is also the MP for Adaklu, said the policy is intended to keep contractors fully committed and accountable, ensuring that the ‘Big Push’ achieves its objectives without unnecessary delays.

"I am saying that, from now, Big Push, which is something that we all need like yesterday, when we award you 20 kilometres of road and we say you should finish in 24 months, we are expecting you to finish ahead of schedule. If there is any evidence of three months of delay, we will write it in the contract, and we will terminate; we are not going to wait for you. If you like, you can go to court," he said on Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Friday, August 1.

Mr Agbodza stressed that no contractor is compelled to work under the Big Push agenda if they cannot adhere to the rules. "No contractor is compelled to participate in Big Push; you must be prepared to work 24/7 on that project, and you must be prepared to complete that project within 24 months."

He added that delays will only be tolerated in cases of “something extremely unforeseen, which we can all understand.”
