Barley three months from now, Premier League clubs will begin the chase for another Glo league title when the next league season opens across the country on October 4.The date proposed by the Premier League Board (PLB) in consultation with the Ghana Football Association, will allow clubs minimal break from the just-ended season as the league's administrators hurry to meet a FIFA deadline for the end of next season. In a rather compressed programme, the league administrators have scheduled September 1, 2009, for the start of prayer registration, while publication of registered players and verification of registrations will be done on September 16 and from September 23-25 respectively in order to meet the FIFA directive. The world football governing body, in a communiqué to affiliated bodies, has reminded national associations to complete their soccer seasons by the middle of May next year in order to provide players ample rest and preparation towards the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa. The proposed programme; containing adjustments made in accordance with the FIFA reminder, will however, be submitted to the Congress of the Ghana Football Association for endorsement when Ghana football's highest decision-making body meets in Accra on August 26 and 27.FIFA’s restricting order, which has forced the tight schedule, has come about because of next year's World Cup.The world football governing body is concerned about giving all national team players at least two weeks of mandatory rest before they join their respective national teams for preparations for the global event taking place in South Africa. With the restrictions it has imposed on the PLB and the GFA, the coming season will be a packed one in the wake of the GFA's decision to bring back the FA Cup next season. The knockout series has not been played since 2005 when RTU won a special version played under the banner of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA).Source: Daily Graphic
