Gender, Children, and Social Protection Minister, Dakoa Newman has acknowledged the substantial positive impact of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Programme (LEAP) on the well-being of its beneficiaries.
She said that the program is significantly improving the living conditions of individuals from extremely disadvantaged families, particularly in areas such as enhancing access to education for children and providing business support, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty.
The Minister oversaw the disbursement of increased funds to beneficiaries during a visit to Ashanti Region communities, following a 200% boost in payments by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) over the past year, enhancing the financial support provided to households through the LEAP programme.

According to a June 27 press release, the Ministry announced that LEAP beneficiaries will receive double the amount they received in June 2023, following a delay in payments. To support this increase, the government has allocated GH₵103,251,072.01 to benefit 324,073 households, with 25,715 households already receiving support, representing about 8% of the total number of beneficiary households nationwide.
Dakoa expressed her optimism that the LEAP program is successfully addressing the difficulties faced by beneficiaries and improving their overall well-being.
"We have monitored the program, and everything is progressing smoothly. Beneficiaries are receiving their funds as expected, and the financial support they are receiving is making a significant difference in their lives," she stated.

"The LEAP Programme has been highly successful. Feedback from beneficiaries, especially those in extreme poverty, highlights how the monthly funds they receive greatly benefit them, their children, and other family members. I believe this program is one of the most beneficial initiatives for Ghanaians at present," she added.
Beneficiaries like Yaa Pokuaa, a mother of five and a farmer, are excited with the increased financial support from the government. She expressed her appreciation, stating that the additional funds will boost her small business and farming endeavors, making a tangible difference in her life.
Yaa's monthly stipend has increased from 64 cedis to 260 cedis, a boost that has enhanced her morale. However, she is now hoping for a further increase, emphasizing the need for more substantial support to boost her business and farming activities, and improve her overall wellbeing.
Other beneficiaries share Yaa's enthusiasm, expressing their delight and optimism about the program's future. They hope that the initiative will continue to evolve and improve, providing even more robust support to enhance their livelihoods and foster a brighter future.
