A lecturer at the Bio-Chemistry Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mr Ebenezer Terlabi, has announced his decision to contest for the position of Regional Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region.
He described himself as a team player who would help to inject vibrancy into the party in the region.
Mr Terlabi told the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi that he would work to ensure that grassroots structures are functional to win more voters for election 2012.
He urged the party's youth to stay away from acts that could undermine its unity and cohesion.
He touched on the public criticism of "President Mills' leadership style" by some high profile NDC personalities including the founder, Ex-President Jerry Rawlings, and said this must be seen as normal and healthy for the country's democracy.
Mr Terlabi said what is important is to see to it that the party comes out of this united and stronger.
He said the NDC belongs to the youth and as such they should understand what it stands for and work to realize the party's vision and goals.
