Nii Nortey Dua, Member of Parliament for the Ledzokuku Constituency, has said the improvement of road networks to ease traffic congestion in the constituency is on course. A segment of the Accra-Tema Beach Road passes through the constituency at parts of Nungua, Teshie and La, all three are major coastal towns and hence attract heavy traffic in the mornings and evenings. The MP, however, said immediate and long term solutions were being put in place to reduce the congestion and to save commuters travelling time. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the legislator who is also the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, said the construction of the Bush Road bye-pass, stretching from the Kpeshie Lagoon to Tebibianor, was almost near completion as the road stretch had attained the tarring stage. To further ease the congestion from the La Palm Royal Hotel to the Teshie main town, part of the island after Kpeshie Bridge had been removed to create a u-turn for vehicles that plied the Bush Road. Nii Dua praised the contractor, Frandesco, for working to schedule and announced that strong drainage systems would be put in place to ensure the longevity of the roads. Consequently, the rehabilitation of the major bridge on the untarred stretch of the road from the Trade Fair to Tebibianor had began in earnest. The MP appealed to motorists to use the Kpeshie by pass until the work, scheduled to complete in a month, was done. On rail transport, Nii Dua commiserated with residents on their inability to use the recently rehabilitated Accra-Tema train service. He announced that he was into consultations with the Ministry of Transport to create a stop at Okpoigon to ensure residents' access to the train service. He appealed to motorists to exercise a high level of patience on the roads to bring down the rate of accidents on the roads in the constituency. On the water situation in the constituency, the MP said he would not relent in the quest to find a lasting solution. In addition to a number of interventions which had seen taps flowing twice in a week, Nii Dua said a buried pipeline that terminated at the Sango Lagoon had been identified and a contract had been awarded to extend the pipeline to the old township to improve on the water supply.
