Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has said it is important to adequately motivate teachers to perform their duties well.
He said it would be difficult to achieve quality education, if the teacher was neglected and thus it is necessary that everything should be done to ensure that they were put at the centre of the nation’s education policy.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu said the “teacher needs to be recognized, supported and encouraged.”
He said this when receiving a delegation from the Ghana Education Service (GES), led by the Ashanti Regional Director, Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, to his Manhyia Palace.
The delegation had called to formally invite the Asantehene to this year’s National Best Teacher/Worker Awards Day fixed for Friday, October 5, in Kumasi.
Mr Onyinah praised the Asantehene for his extraordinary commitment, interest and contribution to the development of education.
He said they were grateful to him for rewarding more 500 teachers selected from deprived basic schools across the country with prizes through the Otumfuo Charity Foundation.
