President John Mahama's nominee for Municipal Chief Executive for Adentan, Mrs. Gifty Emefa Sika Nartey, has lost her second confirmation vote.
She polled eight out of 17 votes to lose the ballot.
She performed worse in the second vote; in the earlier vote, the nominee polled 10 out of 17 votes but fell short of the minimum requirement of two-thirds majority of the assembly members present at an election.
The President nominated Mrs. Nartey for the position after the out-going MCE, Mrs. Kakra Vanlare, failed to get the endorsement of the assembly after three consecutive votes.
She could not obtain the mandatory two-thirds votes after three rounds of voting.
Following her nomination as a compromise candidate, Mrs. Nartey took a vote on December 11, 2013, but failed to garner sufficient votes prompting a rescheduling of the vote for this week.
After intense lobbying and horse-trading, it was expected that the President's nominee will be confirmed this week but she performed even worse than she did in the first vote.
She has been reported to have said that when confirmed, she would use all the resources available to her to ensure that some assembly members perceived to be stubborn, lose their elections in next year's district assembly polls.
That, sources say, is the reason her performance worsened.
She, however, still has one more chance to secure the approval of the 17-member assembly.
But that is dependent upon her re-nomination by the president.
Mrs. Sika Nartey was an official of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Adentan Constituency.
Her struggle to get endorsement from members of the Adentan Municipal Assembly is the story of many across the country who were rejected by their respective assemblies after their nomination by the president.
