A 20-year-old unemployed man, Kwabena Baba, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for raping a 12-year-old school girl at Brakwa, a suburb of Bogoso.
He pleaded guilty.
Chief Inspectro Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that both the victim and accused lived in the same vicinity at Brakwa in Bogoso.
He said on November 20 last year the victim was studying with a friend, on the veranda of their house, when Baba emerged from the dark wearing a mask.
Chief Inspector Paddy said Baba first assaulted the friend, seized the shirt and slippers from the friend and drove the friend away from the scene.
The prosecutor said Baba then dragged the victim to a dark spot behind the house warned her not to shout, raped her and bolted.
Inspector Paddy said two days later, the friend spotted Baba wearing his slippers in the town and confronted the accused who fled from the scene but an alarm was raised and he was arrested with the assistance of neighbours.
