The Employment Ministry has ruled out closure of the Special Steel factory at Tema after an explosion incident Tuesday night.About eight people including an expatriate worker sustained injuries in an accident at the factory. The Ghana Federation of Labour has been pushing for the closure of the company because of dangerous conditions the workers face in their line of work.Rajan Kumar, Deputy Managing Director of Special Steel insists last night’s incident was just a minor accident, adding that it was not exactly an explosion but rather a splash of metal. However, Ghana Federation of Labour argued the company is downplaying the magnitude of the accident to avoid being punished. The Deputy Employment Minister Antwi Boasiako Sekyere who visited the accident scene and those injured said closing the company will not be the best decision.Speaking in an interview with Joy FM, the Minister said what happened there was just an accident and does not necessarily call for the shutting down of the factory.According to Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, shutting down a factory because of accidents would have far reaching consequences adding such calls are inappropriate and are also unfounded. The Deputy Minister was in the company of a team of investigators from the factory inspectorate division when he visited the facility.
