Newly appointed coach of the Black Stars Akwasi Appiah says his target is to win one match after another.
At an outdooring ceremony, Tuesday, the 51 year old also stated that experience and current form will be his strict criteria for the selection into the Black Stars.
Appiah takes over from Serbian Goran Stevanovic whose two year contract was abrogated after failing to win the 2012 AFCON tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea as he promised.
In a sharp contrast to the last press conference held by the FA, which incidentally was Stevanovic’s last encounter with the Ghanaian media, today’s outdooring was in a friendly atmosphere devoid of animosity.
The great atmosphere was capped with a rendition of Ghana’s own ‘jama’ rhythms by the Die Hard Supporters Group dressed in their resplendent yellow outfit to welcome the new Ghanaian trainer.
Akwasi Appiah in his usual temperate composure promised to bring back the total football that has long been associated with the Black Stars.
The former captain of the Black Stars who is the eighth local coach to take over the job of the Black Stars also promised his team will have a good outing in next year’s Nations Cup tournament.
Appiah answered a number of questions from journalists who had gathered at the conference.
It is not yet clear who will be the assistant of the new coach as the FA together with the new coach are still deliberating on the matter.
Even though the FA was evasive on the remuneration of the new Black Stars Coach, a source close to the FA told Myjoyonline.com Akwasi Appiah will be earning $20,000 a month.
Whilst the amount falls short of the €30,000 his predecessor Stevanovic earned it is a quantum leap from the $3,000 he earned as assistant to Goran Stevanovic.
The source said Appiah would rather stay in his own home rather than move into the residence given to his predecessor Plavi.
Appiah will have his first test in a World Cup qualifier in a game against Lesotho at the Accra Sports Stadium.
