A member of the communication team of the ruling National Democratic Congress, NDC, has said the flag-bearer of the opposition NPP will retain his 2008 running mate for the 2012 election because he is appealing to women.
Peter Boamah Otokunor said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s desire to maintain Bawumia confirms the revelation by the US whistleblower website Wikileaks that he (Nana) is a womanizer.
Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to name his running mate for the 2012 election by the close of the month.
Among names that have come up for the position are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former deputy Governor for the Bank of Ghana and the 2008 running mate; Lepowura Alhaji Nurudeen Jawula, a former Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, a sports administrator and now a chief; Ambrose Dery, deputy Minority Leader and Alhaji Haruna Alhassan, deputy Managing Director of Metro TV.
However, Dr Bawumia appears to have the upper hand especially after Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide and political watcher, hinted that the NPP flag-bearer may retain Bawumia as his running mate for the 2012 general elections.
But the final decision as to who wins the slot is the prerogative of the flag-bearer, who must make the choice on the recommendations of a committee responsible for counseling him on the final choice.
Peter Boamah Otokunor on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, said Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to partner with a political neophyte is just to complement his 'crippled reputation' as a womanizer.
He added that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia if chosen would be a stooge to Nana Akufo-Addo and contribute to the NPP’s defeat in 2012.
Peter Otokunor noted that Nana Akufo-Addo’s ethnocentrism has contributed to his failure to choose an experienced person to partner him in 2012. The NDC Youth activist said the NPP lack people with the political acumen to partner their flagbearer whose credibility is being questioned.
He observed that a Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia ticket would be no match for the Mills-Mahama ticket of the NDC.
Peter Boamah Otokunor said President John Evans Atta Mills and Vice president John Dramani Mahama are tried and tested candidates who would retain power for the NDC in 2012.
