As Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections, one candidate has emerged as the brightest star among the presidential contenders: Nana Kwame Bediako, the visionary leader of the New Force.
Beyond his groundbreaking policies, the 12 Pillars for Economic Freedom, he has demonstrated the rare and unique ability to navigate the complex traditional tensions that threaten the country’s stability often now and then.
On Monday, 18th November 2024, Nana Kwame Bediako met the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the funeral of the late Akyempimhene, Oheneba Adusei Opoku, in Kumasi. The encounter was their first since Mr Bediako successfully mediated peace between the Asantehene and Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II.
For several months, tensions between the Asantehene and the Dormaahene posed a threat to Ghana’s unity, particularly with elections on the horizon. While many viewed the dispute as unsolvable, Nana Kwame Bediako saw a path to harmony.
During the Bono Region leg of his 276 Constituency Tour, he pledged to resolve the long-standing dispute, and through a series of engagements and dialogue, he succeeded in reconciling the two traditional rulers.
Nana Kwame Bediako’s peace mediation showcases a key quality desperately needed in Ghana’s next leader: the ability to unify a diverse and sometimes divided nation. By brokering peace between the Asantehene and Dormaahene, he has proven that he is not just a candidate but a unifier who understands the deep cultural and historical nuances that shape Ghana. More importantly, he has demonstrated that he can navigate these complex issues with skill, sensitivity and reverence. No other candidate has demonstrated this level of leadership.
This achievement has also profoundly underscored the Dormaahene’s declaration that Nana Kwame Bediako represents a bold departure from the established political order – the one who truly represents the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of Ghanaians: “You speak words that not even our leaders have dared to utter. Your call for unity is powerful, and I promise you that your message will not be in vain…If it were not for the 1992 constitution, which forbids traditional rulers from participating in politics, I would have openly declared my support for you right here and now.”
Nana Kwame Bediako’s bold policies, the 12 Pillars for Economic Freedom, have already captured the imagination of many Ghanaians. This framework for development focuses on industrialization and infrastructure expansion among other priorities. Yet, it is his ability to complement this transformative agenda with a deep understanding of Ghana’s traditional systems that makes him stand out. His peace mediation exemplifies this balance.
The Ashanti and Bono regions are vital to the economy, both holding billions of dollars in attributable mineral and agricultural wealth. By uniting their traditional leaders, Mr. Bediako has ensured a more stable platform for Ghana’s industrial revolution.
As the election nears, Nana Kwame Bediako’s growing popularity shows that Ghanaians desire a president who can blend bold ideas with the ability to build consensus. In him, the nation sees a leader who understands that the future depends on both economic innovation, the preservation of cherished traditions and peaceful co-existence.
