Nathaniel Attoh: An ode to Elvis Kwashie

Nathaniel Attoh delivering an ode at Elvis Kwashie's remembrance service.

In utmost humility dear Lord, we the sons and daughters are tempted to ask the father – Why did you not listen to our prayerful cry? And drenched in the heartbreak, our sore vocal chords almost chant W-H-Y !

For the once fluid River Koku Elvis Bonuede of living water has eternally run dry.

The chirping Volta Anyako birds flew in pale air because a wind so rare has blown into their wings. For a son, Koku Elvis has embarked on a journey that the earthly disapprove but the heavens endorse.

Serving us with a broken tray of cups filled with the bitterness of the nim tree. And knowing we hardly possess the strength of the biblical Samson to stand up to this implosion of a gallant wall.

How do we re-incarnate the withered strength and from where do we draw the hope to cope. The longest stretch of the marathon is yet to be covered yet the athlete at the center has given up his breath.

In utmost humility dear Lord, we the sons and daughters are tempted to ask the father – Why did you not listen to our prayerful cry? And drenched in the heartbreak, our sore vocal chords almost chant W-H-Y !

A son all-knowing was the defining root of the Joy News battalion Tree, as the leaves and stems were whipped into a disciplinary straight line.

The impact well felt across the boundaries and the effect so strong it leaves the critical mind wandering with big plaudits.

But how such a flourished journey was truncated without warning, leaves a question as the human mind keeps pondering.

But dear Lord you gave Koku offspring Seyram and he acknowledged “God has blessed me”

So good Lord you sure gave Koku offspring Sedem and he acknowledged “God has delivered me”

Then dear Lord you did place in offspring Senam and he acknowledged “God has given me”

If the collected calm Efo Koku sang to you these words of praise why then did you not add to his days?

But just as the norms of native Anyako will go we cannot question the ways of the Almighty Father

We Multimedia search the folded arms bespectacled face and clean bald topped with a business-like look. We Bishop Herman search the bold calculated steps of a cultured man from Volta land.

To which place can we Faanofa locate the spontaneous tickles and giggles, jokes and laughter.

Where do the saddened Evelyn and offspring seek comfort and daily energy?  Where does the church Pentecostal locate its dedicated flock Elder Elvis?

Then we will keep our wailing voice at pitches loud enough to go above the clouds. But in our weakness we bring our crave for your mercy for the shaken collective family

In utmost humility dear Lord, we the sons and daughters are tempted to ask the father – Why did you not listen to our prayerful cry? And drenched in the heartbreak our sore vocal chords almost chant W-H-Y !

To you the silent Efo you have fought well but your race is still on. The race that can only lower its pace when you’re your offsprings stand strong on their feet with no will to retreat. Some of the time we will hope the divine heavenly bells chime to create warmth in times of loneliness and cold.  Some of the time we will hope that the bullish storms will clear the paths for these fatherless three.

Some of the time we will hope that the lonely heart of your frail mother will heal at sunrise. Some of the time we will pray that the feedback-ridden voice will ring incessant reminders of the Multimedia quality to be kept above the limits.

Some of the time we will hope that the sun will never set on this deep legacy. Journey on to the realms of the father dear Efo Koku Bonuede Elvis and may he keep you well. Amen

In utmost humility dear Lord, we the sons and daughters are tempted to ask the father – Why did you not listen to our prayerful cry ? And drenched in the heartbreak our sore vocal chords almost chant W-H-Y ! For the once fluid River Koku Elvis Bonuede of living water has eternally run dry.

Amen
