The National Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Otiko Afisah Djaba, has accused the ruling government of unfairly creating an enabling environment to jail past officials. She said by enshrining in its manifesto that it would jail past officials found to be corrupt, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government sensitized Ghanaians about how corrupt the former government and its officials were, hence the calls for them to be jailed. The NPP women’s organizer, who was speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme, Wednesday, was reacting to media reports that some past officials who had been charged for causing financial loss to the state had failed to appear in court. Mr Kwadwo Mpiani, former Chief of Staff, Dr Richard Anane, former Roads and Transport Minister, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, former Deputy Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, and former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Sammy Crabbe are standing trial for causing financial loss to the state. Mr Mpiani, who was not in court when an Accra Fast Track High Court adjourned the case, told Joy News he was unaware he faces any charge as being reported in some sections of the media. Miss Djaba noted that instead of following the correct procedures in putting people on trial, “these people have been charged on radio.” She underscored the importance of making the country a better place for all Ghanaians, saying “we must see a sense of a better Ghana where things are done differently.” “At the end of the day, justice should be seen to be taking its course,” she added. She, however, assured the Attorney General that the NPP will not fold its arms and watch its members being jailed unfairly.
