NDC is only consistent in lying – Sammy Awuku

Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku, has said the ruling party is only consistent when it comes to lying to Ghanaians. According to him, NDC officials always contradict themselves when they need to inform the public on important issues. He made these comments in connection with conflicting information by leading figures of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) as to whether or not the party was putting up a $20 million multi-purpose edifice for office use. The Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG), which brought the issue to public attention, has called for the investigations into the cost of the edifice, suspecting the party might have used funds from the national coffers. But leading figures of the NDC, not being straightforward on existence of the edifice, have given differing accounts especially as to its location. While National Organiser Yaw Boateng Gyan claims the party acquired land at Oyarifa for the project, the Deputy General Secretary Kofi Adams said land for the same project had been acquired at Oyibi. Mr Awuku who was contributing to discussions on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Tuesday, said the contradictions indicated clearly there was some truth in AFAG’s claims and wondered how a party which could not pay its rent some few years ago could now afford to build an extravagant edifice as an office. The Editor of the Insight newspaper, Mr Kwesi Pratt who was on the show as a co-panelist, was appalled by the inconsistencies in communication by officials of the ruling party, describing it as awful and pathetic. He was surprised that after three-terms in government, the NDC can still not package messages in a desired manner before putting it in the public domain. He however stressed that these inconsistencies did not suggest in any way that AFAG’s claims are true or otherwise and urged for further investigations to ascertain the truth.
