The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided that all activities leading to the Party’s congress in October this year must be suspended.
In a statement signed by General Secretary of the party, the suspension covers "the activities include campaigns and conferences being organized at national, regional, constituencies and branches across the country".
The decision is to enable the party actively participate and effectively monitor the on-going Electoral Commission’s national supplementary registration exercise. We remind party members that the registration is a vital element on the country’s electoral program.
The NEC said it appreciates the enthusiasm and commitment exhibited by members in all programs and activities preceding the party’s national congress.
It also commended executives and comrades at all levels, especially members for their invaluable role and sacrifices they are playing towards the on-going national registration exercise.
The statement said "NEC encourages all members of the party to comply with the directive to ensure the success of the exercise".
This comes after New Patriotic Party flagbearer hopeful Nana Akufo-Addo also announced his intention to suspend his campaign from August 4, to August 13, 2014.
This is to enable polling station and constituency party executives remain focused ahead of the limited registration exercise of new and eligible voters as announced by the Electoral Commission.
