It has emerged that images of some cedi denominations that have been circulating on social media were only a school project, putting to rest rumours that government plans to introduce new notes.
The purported new currency denominations made the rounds on Facebook and Whatsapp and got into the news forcing responses from the Bank of Ghana over the weekend.
According to business news website, Ghana Business News, the designer behind the works, Holison Adiku, has revealed in an interview that the purpose of his creation was not borne out of malice.

Holison Adiku, who studied graphic and web design at IPMC, an IT training institution in Ghana says the art works were his school project and nothing more.
Holison who now works as a professional photographer told ghanabusinessnews.com in the interview conducted on Facebook chat that he completed his training in 2012 and after working with some advertising companies he developed an interest in photography and made a switch.
He later told Myjoyonline.com Tuesday that his design was adjudged the best in his class.
On how the works appeared on social media he said, “Last Thursday, I did a ‘Throw Back Thursday’, since people now know me as a photographer and no more a graphic designer and posted the works with the following hashtags: #Tbt #Ipmc #Project #work #2011.”
“I even posted them on my business page,” he told ghanabusinessnews.com.
The photos were widely shared on Facebook with suggestions that the government was printing new cedi notes in GH¢30, GH¢100 and GH¢200 denominations.
But Ms Esi Hammond of the Public Relations Unit of the Bank of Ghana told ghanabusinessnews.com that the Bank was not printing any such notes and asked the public to disregard the information.
Adiku said he was initially scared he would be invited by the police over the designs, but a friend convinced him he has done nothing wrong.
He told Myjoyonline.com it is regrettable that the designs of the imaginary cedi denominations took a political twist following its circulation on Whatsapp and Facebook.
