The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says it has paid off some arrears owed service providers, to reduce their outstanding debts.
The Authority said a total of GH₵363,930,660.51 has been paid this year alone, to ensure that the members of the scheme continue to get consistent access to quality medical care.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on Monday, April 6, 2020, announced on the floor of Parliament that some GH₵300 million had been made available to these service providers.
In a statement sourced to the Corporate Affairs directorate of the NHIA, it is stated that the payments were taken from the funds provided to them by government, to provide liquidity to healthcare providers and pharmaceutical workers.
“Barely a week after the announcement, the NHIA has released ₵207,539,276.62 million so far to its credentialed service providers,” the document said.
Meanwhile, there has been a reduction in the number of operating staff at the NHIA centres outside lockdown areas.
According to the authority, this move is to reduce the risk of contracting coronavirus.
