The Focus on Sickle Cell Foundation (FoSCel) has presented a citation of appreciation to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for its significant efforts in amplifying support for the inclusion of Sickle Cell treatment under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The citation was formally presented by FoSCel’s Founder, Amos Andoh, alongside members of the Foundation on Tuesday, December 2.

They expressed their sincere gratitude to NHIA for its openness, responsiveness, and dedication to improving access to care for individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease across Ghana.
FoSCel’s policy proposal, which advocated for the inclusion of Sickle Cell treatment under the NHIS, highlighted the need for accessible healthcare, a reduction in the financial burden on affected individuals, and the promotion of early diagnosis for patients and families.

The NHIA's leadership and engagement were pivotal in advancing the national conversation on this important issue, helping to secure stronger support for the initiative.
Receiving the itation, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, the Chief Executive of NHIA, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Authority.

He reaffirmed NHIA’s commitment to supporting Sickle Cell initiatives nationwide and stressed that the doors of the Authority remain open to FoSCel.
Dr Bampoe commended FoSCel for its unwavering advocacy, consistency, and passion for improving health outcomes for individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease.
He also acknowledged the Foundation's role in bringing attention to the needs of the Sickle Cell community and facilitating important conversations on healthcare accessibility.

The presentation of the citation also marked a renewed collaboration between NHIA and FoSCel, focusing on the expansion of Sickle Cell awareness, promoting early screening, and improving access to accurate information across communities, particularly in schools and underserved areas.
As part of this strengthened partnership, both organisations are committed to working together to raise awareness, encourage early diagnosis, and ensure that treatment for Sickle Cell Disease is more accessible and affordable to those who need it most.
NHIA continues to remain steadfast in its commitment to supporting impactful health interventions that contribute to a more equitable and robust healthcare system for all Ghanaians.
The enhanced collaboration with FoSCel is a reflection of this ongoing dedication to improving the health and well-being of vulnerable populations, particularly those living with Sickle Cell Disease.
