The Ghana Football Association says new convert Kevin-Prince Boateng is not guaranteed an automatic place in Milovan Rajevac’s 23-man squad for next month’s World Cup finals in South Africa.
The German-born was cleared to play for the West African country at the mundial last week by Fifa but has been told to work for a place.
The Portsmouth midfielder is part of a 23-man squad expected to leave Accra for the pre-tournament training camp which begins on 24 May.
The Ghana FA believes his inclusion in the Ghana team provides options to the head coach ahead of the 1 June deadline.
“We all know the challenges the team often goes through. It’s therefore necessary to have quality players ready to play at all times and that is why we are excited about Boateng’s decision to play for Ghana. We are sure he will not regret it,” Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi told Graphic Sports.
Boateng is likely to make his Ghana debut on 1 June in a friendly against Holland in Rotterdam.
