The Director of Communications for the Bawumia campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has created more employment for the youth.
According to him, the number of jobs created under the current government amounts to 2.1 million.
He said this on JoyNews' AM Show on Friday, August 16, 2024.
“We have created 2.1 million jobs, and we have the data to prove it,” he indicated.
“Even after creating 2.1 million jobs, we understand that there is still more to be done. That’s why our commitment is to scale up our efforts in the next term, ensuring that the growing number of young people have opportunities for meaningful work.”
Mr Aboagye explained that this and many other issues form part of the reasons why the NPP's manifesto will place emphasis on job creation and business development.
“Approximately 90% of the manifesto will focus on jobs and businesses in the private sector,” he added.
The NPP member expressed confidence that the party, having delivered on similar promises in the past, is poised to do so again, particularly for the nation’s youth.
The NPP is expected to unveil its manifesto on Sunday, August 18, ahead of the December 7 election.
Discussing the broader strategy, he explained that job creation is not just about numbers—it’s about building a value chain. "We need to ensure that our young people are equipped with the right skills," he said. "Right now, we have about 11 automobile companies in Ghana, all of which are eager to hire. But are our young people ready? That’s why we’ve invested heavily in modernizing TVET, so that they can step into these roles.
He added that these companies are prepared to employ close to 13,000 to 14,000 young people. "The opportunities are there, and we are ensuring that our youth are ready to seize them.”
