Former Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng has said the New Patriotic Party government in its last days was not listening. He said although the government started as a listening one, it took things for granted and turned to ignore people. “Me included, my mum always even used to complain that when she called me it took me three or four rings before I called her back… it’s one of the things I wasn’t listening,” he said. Mr. Asamoah Boateng told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah the party was complacent of winning the 2008 elections. “We thought we (performed) well and people would vote for development so the normal politicking of propaganda never came into our thoughts.” The former Mfatsiman West Member of Parliament said the then ruling NPP did not also adopt ‘ways and means’ which he believes is necessary in politics. That, for him, partly accounted for the party’s defeat at the polls. But Mr. Asabee said it was better the party did not employ unconventional methods during the election saying that could trigger violence given that the stakes were high in that election. “We are glad that we were in government and saw to a smooth transition.” According to him, the NPP certainly will be a better party come 2012 when the country goes for another election.
