The National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Charles Dwamena has debunked claims of financial impropriety regarding a donation made by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in 2022.

In a statement issued to all media houses, Dr Dwamena popularly called ‘Dr. China’ described recent reports as “misleading and diversionary,” urging the public to disregard them.

The publication in question allegedly suggested wrongdoing in the use of funds donated for the printing of the Party Executives ID cards from the polling stations to the national.

However, the NPP National Treasurer clarified the facts, explaining that the funds—amounting to GH¢4,203,100.00—were donated by a group called “Friends of Dr. Bawumia” to support the printing of ID cards for approximately 220,000 executive members from polling stations to international levels.

“The IT Directorate was able to capture the data of about 180,000 Executive Members as some were unavailable. Out of the captured data, all cards have been processed, and over 90% have been printed and distributed to Executive Members across the country,” the statement revealed.

Dr Dwamena assured members that funds were disbursed following approval from both the National Chairman and the General Secretary, in line with party procedures.

“The structures and working procedures of the party make it impossible for the National Treasurer to make unilateral decisions, let alone spend funds without approval,” the statement emphasized.

The NPP National Treasurer also used the opportunity to appreciate other notable contributions made to the party.

“We recognize the significant donations of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, who supported over 200,000 party members with bags of rice, and Hon. Alan Kyerematen, who contributed financially to the printing of Delegate Albums,” he noted.

Reiterating the party’s commitment to accountability, Dr Dwamena assured members that all officers and campaign team members entrusted with resources during the 2024 elections will account for their allocations.

“Proper accountability is non-negotiable,” he stated.

Dr Dwamena therefore encouraged party members to remain focused and dismiss the allegations, emphasizing that donations were made to the party as an institution and not to individuals.
