Aspiring General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong is calling for a total overhaul of the current leadership of the party.
He said the NPP is at a crossroads and thus needs vibrant, vision oriented leadership for a landslide victory in the 2016 general elections.
“There is a need for a change of leadership. The time has come for NPP to go back to our roots to win the confidence of Ghanaians”.
Kwabena Agyapong was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.
He said the NPP lost two successive elections by the “skin of our teeth” because the spirit of sacrifice is no more part of it moral fabric.
The former presidential spokesperson noted that the party needs to take major decision by choosing selfless leaders ready to work to make the NPP an attractive political party.
“Our utterances must be such that we can win the hearts and minds of the Ghanaian people. NPP must be an attractive force not a repelling force” he stressed.
The aspiring General Secretary said he will be the practical and action-oriented leader the party needs to end its electoral woes.
Kwabena Agyapong said he will make the grass-roots the vanguard on which the NPP would win any future election if given the nod as General Secretary.
“Those who know how to govern have to learn how to win; we need a lot of inner introspection in our own party”.
Kwabena Agyapong added that “victory has eluded us in trying circumstances therefore there has to be devolution of power from the centre. The campaign machinery at the grassroots must be strengthened”
Commenting on the insults hurled at Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku after calling for a change of a presidential candidate; he said “I have been appalled at the amount of insults hurled at Dr. Apraku”.
He said attacking Dr. Apraku for expressing his views is alien to NPP’s democratic culture.
According to him, Dr. Apraku who hitherto was the 2008 campaign manager for the party and was a cabinet Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration deserves to be accorded the needed respect.
Kwabena Agyapong said the party members must be mindful of the fact that genuine unity is the requisite for victory in 2016.
